Where Drug Meets Device: A Pharmacist’s Role in Mechanical Ventilation

This course reviews the intersection of pharmacotherapy and mechanical ventilation and can be taken by anyone interested in the topic, but offers continuing education (CE) credit for United States healthcare practitioners in Pharmacy. The course introduces pharmacists to essential concepts of mechanical ventilation, providing an overview of key terminology, settings, and modes of ventilation. Pharmacotherapy specifically associated with mechanically ventilated patients and post-extubation care is also covered, with a focus on optimizing medication safety and efficacy. By the end of the course, pharmacists will have gained a foundational “toolkit” for managing ventilated patients and improving patient outcomes in critical care settings.
