The first web chats chats were with AOL, created in 1994 to help contact representatives for dial-up home internet service users. Web chat customer support has been used by many different companies across numerous industries since its conception as an efficient way to communicate and provide customer assistance without having customers wait on hold or email their questions back and forth. Web chats, sometimes called live chats, are used to communicate in real-time over an internet connection.
