Understanding White Privilege

Understanding White Privilege is an audio-only course. The topic of White privilege comes up often in conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion. You‚It’ve probably heard White individuals openly deny implications that they have any privilege in society. Why do some realize and accept the advantages of their status while others don‚It’t? This course is part of the Let’s Talk White Guys series, a collection of podcasts featuring conversations around racism, sexism, bad behavior, and privilege as a means to expand the “straight White male” perspective on responsibility and necessary change. In this course, you’ll hear from Jamie Winship, a former Washington D.C. police officer; Mike Robbins, an executive coach, author, and motivational speaker; and Tony Schwartz, founder and CEO of The Energy Project. Drawing on their personal experiences as White men, they explain why they opposed the “privilege” conversation when it first started and how their opinions changed from initial rejection to eventual understanding and acceptance. You‚It’ll hear firsthand accounts of White privilege and racial discrimination among the police in the 1980s and what these experiences taught Jamie about race. And you‚It’ll encounter honest conversations about the opportunities and advantages present in upper-class White communities. After this course, you‚It’ll have a better understanding of what goes on in the minds of White men when it comes to the complex topic of privilege.
