Understanding Stereotypes

A stereotype is a belief about an entire group of people, often generalized from the average member or followers of that group. Stereotypes are created and reinforced through various means including socialization, popular culture and media influence. Bias refers to prejudice against members in particular groups based on personal opinions rather than factually accurate information gathered by observation.

Stereotypes can be negative or positive depending on how they were formed but all stereotypes serve to reinforce society’s ideas about certain groups/groups’ traits – some being more favorable than others Treat each and every person you encounter with respect and dignity.
