In this module, we will discuss one of the most widely-used theories of group development: Tuckman and Jensen’s Model of Team Development.
Tuckman’s model explains that as the team develops maturity and ability, relationships establish, and leadership style changes to more collaborative or shared leadership. Tuckman’s original work simply described the way he had observed groups evolve, whether they were conscious of it or not. Understanding the Tuckman Model of team development can help you intentionally move your teams forward for great performance. By understanding the characteristics of each phase of Bruce Tuckman’s model, project managers can observe group behavior to identify where teams are and help move them forward.
