In her TED Talk, “The work that makes all other work possible,” Ai-jen Poo explains what we can learn from domestic workers such as nannies, home care workers and cleaners. A workforce that is often invisible, taken for granted or dismissed as “help,” she says these workers are mostly women of color who do their wholehearted best for the families and homes in their charge. You’ll learn the story of Lily, who worked for 15 years without pay and was not allowed to communicate with her family. By the end, you’ll understand why these workers need your cultural competence and respect.
