There are many incorrect ways to fire an employee. These methods can cause anxiety or embarrassment to the employee and the manager, but can also leave the company open for a lawsuit regarding harassment from management or even wrongful termination. Do not fire someone without warning. Do not get someone else to do the dirty work. Do not do it in front of an audience. Do not get personal.
Firing someone is a lot easier said than done. Although it’s something every manager will have to face at one point or another, letting someone go is an odious task that both employer and employee dread. It’s also a decision that many managers lose a lot of sleep over. But, as hard as that undertaking is, it’s important to follow the proper process for how to fire an employee.
