Standing Up for Respectful Workplace Behavior‚Ñ¢

Meet the Chicago Bystander Training Requirement! Research tells us that as many as 80% of women and 20% of men experience some form of harassment in the workplace. Organizations want productive and engaged employees who contribute to the bottom line… and one aggressive employee can ruin it all. There are real consequences associated with crossing the line at work and more than money is what’s at stake. The effects of harassment, discrimination and abusive conduct can damage our organization’s morale, brand, and leave targeted employees unproductive and fearful.

There is a lot to consider when it comes to discussing and preventing workplace harassment. But the key point is clear… we all must be aware of our organizational policies regarding harassment. We must also take responsibility for our own actions… and be proactive in dealing promptly with inappropriate behavior.

Preventing harassment, abusive conduct and discrimination is about recognizing what’s going on around us and being proactive about it. If you see or hear about the kinds of situations that are inappropriate – don’t just walk away or laugh them off - address them! Be an ally – or an upstander – and speak up!

Harassment and discrimination can happen anywhere. We don’t have to just accept it as part of the workplace culture. We must address it and move past it… to provide a better, more productive, and respectful environment… for everyone.
