Improving Critical Thinking

When burdened with deadlines, more often than not, we end up making hasty decisions. We skip examining the evidence and jump to the first conclusion. Even worse, we sometimes choose a solution that supports our beliefs. Lack of metacognition or not thinking critically is a barrier to effective decision-making. Fortunately, critical thinking can be learned. When we challenge our presumptions, ask logical questions, and take into account many viewpoints, we may be engaging in critical thinking, although perhaps not as consciously and rigorously as we should.
