In her TED Talk “How to turn a group of strangers into a team,” business school professor Amy Edmonson teaches about teamwork and how to work together effectively. With fast-paced operations, crazy schedules, and ever-narrowing expertise, more people need to work with different people all the time to get work done. Sometimes we have to work with people we don’t know or who are different from us to get things done; this is called “teaming.” Hospitals are a good example of where teaming is important because patients see many different doctors and nurses who all have to work together to give them good care and establish trust. Edmonson also talks about how teaming is important for solving big problems, like creating smart cities. Overall, Edmonson’s message is that even though teaming is not always easy, it is essential for success in team development and many areas of life.
