In the TED Talk “How green hydrogen could end the fossil fuel era,” Vaitea Cowan explains the potential of green hydrogen to replace fossil fuels in sectors such as industry, transport, and heating and cooling. Green hydrogen is created through water electrolysis using renewable electricity, and is considered 100% clean. Cowan argues that while the world is making progress in sustainability, we need to also focus on our molecules, as 80% of global energy consumption comes in the form of molecules, largely powered by fossil fuels. Cowan provides examples of how green hydrogen can be used in the aviation sector, as well as in steel production processes, where it can eliminate up to 95% of CO2 emissions.
