Hexavalent Chromium [Cr(VI)] Hazards: Introduction

This course enables employees to understand the risks associated with hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] exposure, a chemical compound found in dyes, preserved wood, and anti-corrosion products; it’s also produced during hot work, such as welding.

We’ll identify specific uses of the compound and how exposure to it can be harmful or even fatal to employees. You’ll learn about the types of work that may expose employees to a mist, fume, or smoke created by hexavalent chromium use. You’ll also learn the symptoms of exposure and some of the effects exposure to this human carcinogen can have on the body.

Employers operating facilities where hexavalent chromium is used must have established regulations in place to minimize the risk of exposure. This course provides the details to help all employees keep themselves safe at work.
