Health and Safety Manager Role in Emergency Response and Fire Safety

Welcome to the course on Health & Safety Manager Role in Emergency Response and Fire Safety. Most working adults in the US spend 30% of their waking hours at work. It is the legal and moral responsibility of organizations to ensure employee safety and preparedness in times of emergencies.

Workplace related emergencies include fires or explosions, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions such as earthquakes, storms or hurricanes, active shooters, bomb threats, major power failures and/or hazardous material spills.

According to the results of an online poll, conducted by Cintas Corporation, it was found that less than a third of employed U.S. adults (31%) consider their workplace proactive about emergency preparedness. Each year, fire hazards cost US businesses 1 Bn dollars in losses.

Health and Safety Managers need to ensure preventative measures to minimize the impact from emergencies. They also need to ensure that at the time of an emergency, people know their roles well and are equipped to take the steps to secure themselves.

While having robust Health and Safety procedures in place cannot prevent risks, it can strongly reduce the negative impact of emergencies on human life.
