Harassment is defined as any unwelcome conduct on the basis of race, color, age, sex/gender identity or expression that creates a hostile work environment. Harassers may be individuals (e.g., co-workers) or groups in an organization and can include supervisors who harass subordinates or others reporting to them.
A Workplace Harassment Policy should:
Be reasonably easy for employees to find
State what constitutes harassment
Define how complaints will be made and investigated by management and human resources personnel
List ways managers are expected to help prevent workplace harassment including coaching team members with potential conflict situations related to their job duties so they become more assertive when appropriate without having been harassed themselves
