Instructor-led, participant-centered learning is an educational model that focuses on the individual needs and strengths of each learner. Instructional methods fall into two categories: those which are teacher led such as lectures and small group discussions, or student directed through peer interaction including self-exploration exercises. For example, in a humanities course like English literature students would be expected to read texts independently while engaging with others around their work as they develop insights about society’s role within culture shift movements. In this instance it may be beneficial for students to complete a writing assignment where they create responses to their readings according to certain rubrics discussed beforehand by instructors so that individuals can focus on specific skills needed for success in academia.
