Communication at Work: The Danger of Assumptions

Assumptions pose significant dangers in communication and decision-making, as they can lead to misunderstandings, misjudgements and conflicts. When we make assumptions, we rely on incomplete or in accurate information, often filling gaps with our biases and preconceived notions. This Danger of Assumptions course features two scenarios, one showing what takes place when the communication is ineffective and how the situation can improve when the communication is effective.

Once the course is completed, you will have learnt the importance of clear and precise communication, listening effectively and the use of paraphrasing and asking questions for clarity. This course is one part of a 9 part Communication at Work Series aimed at all staff to enhance communication skills.
