As more and more companies migrate to the cloud, they are leveraging the power and versatility of virtual machines like those available using the AWS Amazon EC2 service. In the course, you will dive into understanding Amazon Machine Images, including automating the build and deployment of new images, strategy for choosing an instance type along with the AWS Compute Optimizer, and changing instance types. Next, you dive into data storage as it applies to EC2 instances. You’ll look at instance stores, Elastic Block Storage disks, and Elastic File Systems. You will go hands-on in this section to update an EC2 instance’s volume to improve performance. Finally, you will look at ensuring data resiliency with the Data Lifecycle Manager and EBS snapshots. As you might expect, networking is a big part of EC2 instances. In this course, we will look at essential topics such as elastic IP addresses, elastic network interfaces, elastic network adapters, and placement groups. You will work directly with an EC2 instance that requires network modification to meet security requirements. This course will cover the critical topics of security and infrastructure as code throughout the course. Instead of a ‚Äúone and done” approach, where applicable, you will focus on the security of EC2 instance features as they are presented. For IaC, you will use AWS CloudFormation and expand your knowledge of Terraform, a very much in-demand skill! Finally, we will look at a critical and often overlooked subject by engineers around EC2 instances: costs! In this section, you will understand instance lifecycles, purchase options, savings plans, and more.
