Understanding Training and Facilitation

Training is the process of presenting information to a group or an individual in order for them to learn. Training can be done through one-on-one sessions, presentations, lectures, and demonstrations. It typically takes place at designated training facilities, which may include classrooms as well as conference rooms with audio/video equipment that allows distance learning. although some organizations use their own offices where they have greater control over logistics such as lighting level and temperature. Facilitation refers to providing guidance for developing discussion among participants using various methods such as asking questions or summarizing points raised during discussions. The facilitator’s role includes preparing for the meeting; making sure that all necessary materials are available (e.g., flipcharts) before starting; helping create a plan before beginning; taking charge of meetings when it becomes unproductive due to poor organization from other groups.
