Closing in Negotiation

Negotiation is a process where an advocate and the opposing party come together to reach mutual understandings. It can be done through verbal or written communication, often with a series of steps that will result in both parties being able to achieve their goals. In some cases, negotiation includes coercion as well but most negotiations are peaceful and cooperative; they involve “give-and-take” since partaking in this kind of engagement requires each person’s input. Negotiators establish rapport by showing respect for one another which allows them to take into account what is important about their counterpart without imposing on personal values such as culture or identity.
