Providing excellent customer service does not mean that you have to face threats, intimidation, or vulgar language from customers. If customers are out of control, you need to take over the situation and protect yourself. Escalating a problem is never an easy decision. If you have to escalate, it means that all your other options didn’t work, and now the stakes are higher than they ever were before. Escalation only works as your last resort when every other thing has failed, and nothing else can be done anymore. The most crucial factor in deciding whether or not to escalate something is timing since escalating too soon will lead nowhere, while waiting too long could mean disaster for everyone involved.
