Common Types of Anxiety

Anxiety is a general term that refers to the feeling of worry, fear and tension about an event or situation. It can also be considered as feelings of nervousness, apprehension and even panic in response to events that seem unfamiliar or threatening. Anxiety disorders typically involve significant distress resulting from unrealistic thoughts related to one’s concerns for personal safety (e.g., heights), being negatively judged by others (e.g., social anxiety) or having health-related worries such as gastroesophageal reflux disease that could cause death if not properly cared for (anxiety disorder). The most common types include generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobiaÔºåsocial anxiety syndrome and panic attack.
