Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and control emotions, understand other people’s feelings as well as one’s own. It deals with an individual’s capacity for empathy, self-awareness and interpersonal skills such that they can recognize their own emotions in order to manage them. Emotionally intelligent individuals are able to be aware of their personal moods or those of others so that they can make appropriate behavioral choices rather than act on automatic (or more often subconscious) impulses. When controlling emotion it helps a person enhance creativity, focus attention when needed without being distracted by emotional distractions themselves or others around them; deal effectively with anger management issues; improve decision making abilities; foster healthy relationships between parents/children.
