Dealing with Angry People

Anger is a strong emotion that can be exacerbated by a feeling of victimization and helplessness. When we feel like we are being wronged or that there is nothing we can do to change a situation, our anger can intensify. However, it is important to remember that we always have options when dealing with an anger-provoking situation. One way to manage anger is to consider the “3 A’s”: alter, avoid, and accept.

Altering the situation means taking action to change the circumstances that are causing your anger. This could involve communicating your feelings to the person or people involved, setting boundaries, or finding a solution to the problem.

Avoiding the situation means stepping away from the source of your anger, either physically or emotionally. This could involve finding a way to disengage from the situation, such as taking a break or declining an invitation.

Accepting the situation means acknowledging that there is nothing you can do to change the circumstances, but choosing to let go of your anger and find a way to move forward. This could involve practicing mindfulness or seeking the help of a therapist or counselor.

By considering these three options, you can take control of your anger and find a way to manage it in a healthy way.
