Obstetrical Safety Issues

Obstetric (OB) practice carries some unique risks. Staff in an obstetrical unit have the responsibility for the safety of two vulnerable patients: a mother and her fetus, or after delivery, her infant. Injuries during birth have the potential for creating permanent losses and disabilities. Catastrophic problems may occur with little warning which can result in devastating issues for all involved, and potentially a lawsuit against the healthcare facility and staff involved.
