Warning: Scam Website!

AL: I wanted to go on LinkedIn. I was about to put in my credentials when I noticed the address bar… You won’t believe it, but instead of LinkedIn, it said LinkdIn, without the ‚Äúe” in the middle… PT: …You didn’t put your credentials in, did you? AL: No, I got suspicious and closed everything… A website with such a similar name… Even the graphics were practically identical! How do they do it? PT: The online scam world is huge and evolving all the time. When you go on a site, be very careful, especially before giving out personal information and sensitive data! The fraudster’s goal is to get hold of victims’ credit card codes, passwords, addresses and so on. AL: But I was sure it was the genuine LinkedIn page, it was identical… PT: First, the scammer creates a fake web page. It looks real because it exactly duplicates the website we’re familiar with. Then, they get their victims to connect to that website with its very similar name. They use phishing e-mails, messages on social networks, and other techniques to trick users into logging in or registering, and then… AL: …and then the unwary user risks falling into the trap, serving up their personal information to the fraudster on a silver platter! PT: Precisely! But not to worry! With this training, you’ll learn how to check website security, credibility and reliability. You’ll find out how to recognise the characteristic features of a scam website and learn lots of useful tips to help you keep well away! AL: That’s just what I need… I’m ready.
