Silica Awareness: What is Silica?

This course is designed to educate workers on the dangers of crystalline silica, a common mineral present in construction materials. Participants will learn about the specific materials that contain crystalline silica, such as sand, stone, concrete, brick, and mortar. The course emphasizes the health risks associated with inhaling respirable crystalline silica particles, which can lead to the incurable lung disease silicosis. Additionally, it highlights early signs of silicosis, advanced symptoms, and the potential for other serious diseases resulting from silica exposure.
