The safe handling of electricity relies on the continuous flow within a closed loop. Hazards arise when this loop is disrupted. In cases of wire breakage, electricity, unable to complete its circuit or discharge into the ground, accumulates at the break point, creating what is known as a “hot wire.” Contact with a hot wire can result in electric shock, as you effectively become the conduit for the electricity. Three-pronged plugs feature a grounding pin designed to serve as a pathway to the ground in case of wiring issues. However, it’s important to note that grounding assists in mitigating electrical risks but does not entirely eliminate the danger of shock if you come into contact with a hot wire. This micro course covers electrical hazards in an office environment.
