Depending on the type of chemical, and the personal protective equipment you may be
wearing, the use of a safety shower may be required. A safety shower’s purpose is to quickly
wash and disinfect the employee from a chemical exposure. One of the most important aspects
is the speed to which an employee can access one. It should never take more than ten seconds
for an employee to reach a safety shower and to start it. The location of it must also be on the
same level as where the potential chemical exposure is occurring.
