What are Intent and Impact?

If you’ve ever said, ‚ÄúI was just joking,” ‚ÄúI didn’t mean it like that,” or ‚ÄúYou took it the wrong way,” you can probably see the difference between intent and impact. Your intent was to get a laugh or maybe even give a compliment, but the impact you made was quite different.
