Combating Fraud, Waste, and Abuse in the Pharmacy Setting

This course reviews combating fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) in the pharmacy setting and can be taken by anyone interested in the topic, but offers continuing education (CE) credit for United States healthcare practitioners in pharmacy. Fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) are critical issues in both community and inpatient pharmacies. This CE activity uses real-world case studies of CMS actions taken against pharmacies to illustrate the various ways FWA can occur. Participants will learn practical strategies to identify and address FWA, with best practices tailored for pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and district managers overseeing multiple locations. Key legal frameworks such as the False Claims Act, Whistleblower Protection Act, and qui tam actions are explored, alongside actionable tips on responding to suspected FWA and reporting processes to management and CMS.
