University Laboratory Safety: Developing and Using Controls

Controls are an essential part of any laboratory. This course will teach you how to recognize which ones your university requires to create a safe working environment for laboratory personnel. We will start off by explaining the hierarchy of controls, outlining the best methods to reduce hazards in your workplace. Then, we will look at different types of controls in detail, including administrative and engineering controls and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). We will provide practical examples of each type, and we will also outline when to use them.

By the end of the course, you will be more familiar with the wide array of tools and techniques that you can set up to help prevent accidents and injuries. This knowledge will help you develop and maintain the proper controls for your laboratory’s specific needs.
