As their name implies, sexually transmitted infections, or STIs, are infections that get transmitted during sexual intercourse or sexual contact. They are also known as sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs. While assisting a client, you should inform the nurse if you notice an eruption of small painful blisters around external genitalia, skin-colored genital warts with a cauliflower-like surface, unusual penile or vaginal discharge, and painless skin lesion on external genitalia. Additionally, inform the nurse if your client complains of pain or difficulty urinating.
