Antiembolic stockings and sequential compression devices are applied to help prevent deep vein thrombosis, or DVT. DVT occurs when blood clots form in the deep veins where blood normally pools and typically involves the deep veins of the lower legs or thighs. Before beginning the procedure, always ask for the client‚It’s consent, explain what you are about to do and why it is important. This can be especially helpful for confused clients or those with memory impairment. In addition, make sure to ask the nurse what size and length to use for your client.
